About
From the headline-grabbing corporate scandals, to the fall-out from government regulation, it’s no secret that the business world has been plagued with corporate scandals in recent years. Bothered by the “don’t-ask-don’t-tell” method of many businesses and public relations firms, Ann Subervi set out to create a new type of communications firm: an ethically focused practice which represents organizations, ideas, people and companies that enhance the human condition and which operate within a strongly principled framework. Subervi launched the firm, Utopia Communications, in 2005.
Taking her mission one step further to help others in the industry, Ann became the first (and only) officially endorsed trainer of Trust Inc.’s LEAP methodology for values based leadership in the United States. Ann is also the ethics officer for the NJ Chapter of PRSA and a noted lecturer on public relations and ethics.
Ann holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations from Syracuse University, for which she received an academic merit scholarship from the Women Executives in Public Relations Foundation. Ethics is the focus of her capstone project for her Master’s Degree.
Ann has written articles on ethical leadership in the PR industry for numerous industry trade publications, and is a monthly columnist for PR Tactics (a publication of the Public Relations Society of America). She has presented her Values Based Leadership Workshop to numerous public relations agencies, communication departments and public relations industry associations in the hopes of raising the bar on ethics for her industry. She is also a past judge of the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl National Championship, and is the only PR professional to have done so.
Ann is the Chair of the Public Relations Society of America’s prestigious Counselors Academy • Sits on the board of the PRSA of NJ • Is a member of the Jersey Shore PR and Advertising Association • Is a former publicity committee member of the NY-International Association of Business Communicators • Former public relations chair for the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners • Honored in 2000 by Business News New Jersey as one of State’s “Top 40 Under 40” • Honored in 2007 by NJBIZ Magazine as one of the Top 50 Business Women in the State• Adjunct Professor of Communications, Monmouth University • Nationally recognized, Ann has been profiled and quoted on national radio and television, as well as in publications such as Dividends, Self-Employed Professional, Entrepreneur, Executive Female, Working Woman Magazine, PR Week and Working Mother, among others, in relation to her expertise in ethics, public relations and professional leadership.
